God did not say that we're to live a life of common sense. We are to live a life of Faith. Faith surpasses common sense, and fear lives in the common sense. When there is fear there is also a lack of trust, but when we trust in God fully there is no room for fear.

We must understand that conviction is from God, something that we must have just like shame is from the devil. Just like Adam and Eve sinned, a conviction came to them, but the conviction wasn't strong enough to stop them from stepping into sin. As soon as you don't have a strong enough conviction, shame will take over you.
